Put Your FSA and HSA Dollars to Use

If you have a flexible spending account (FSA) or health savings account (HSA), you can use them to pay for a wide variety of health care products and services for you, your spouse, and your dependents. 

Below are some common items that you are probably already buying and may not realize that you can pay for with FSA or HSA funds. For more information on what items or services are covered, use the HSA Bank Eligibility List or download the HSA Bank app for iPhone or Android to check items while you’re shopping by scanning the barcode.

Over-the-Counter Products

  • Medications: prescriptions, ibuprofen, acetaminophen, allergy and cold medications, insulin, heartburn medication, and some nutritional supplements (if medically necessary)
  • Medical supplies: first aid supplies, band-aids, blood pressure monitors, thermometers, hand sanitizer, broad-spectrum sunscreen or with SPF 15+
  • Personal care items: menstrual care products, skin and acne care, and sunscreen (if medically necessary)
  • Home health equipment: orthopedic supports, heating pads, massage therapy equipment, walking aids, CPAP and supplies
  • Family planning products: birth control and contraceptives, ovulation monitors, pregnancy tests, prenatal vitamins, and baby care (including diaper rash cream, breast pump, and breast milk storage bags and bottles)

Vision and Hearing Care

  • Glasses: Prescription and reading eyeglasses, prescription sunglasses, eyeglass repair kits, and lens wipes
  • Contacts: prescriptions lenses, contact lens solution
  • Vision correction treatment/surgery including lasik and eye drops
  • Hearing aids and batteries

Dental Care

  • Dental sealants, bridges, and implants
  • Braces and retainers
  • Denture adhesive and cleaner
  • Mouth guards for teeth grinding
