When you are traveling or your dependent is a student attending college outside of the plan's service area (Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and western Wisconsin), you may still receive in-network benefits for medical services if you use a provider in the nationwide Travel Program Network. To be eligible for this benefit, your permanent residence must be within the plan's service area.
Travel Benefit
The travel benefit is offered in Medica Elect/Essential, Medica ACO Plan, and Medica Choice Regional. You or your covered dependents can access the UnitedHealthcare Option PPO network when traveling within the United States outside of Medica’s service area and still receive in-network benefits.
However, chiropractic care and transplants are not part of the travel benefit. Your out-of-network/emergency benefit will apply for these services.
Locate a Provider
Go to the Find a Physician or Facility page on the Medica website and then click on the link below Travel Program to access the travel network. Another option is to call Medica's customer service at 952-992-1814 or 1-877-252-5558.
Note: The travel program is included in the Medica Choice National and Medica HSA plan options. These plans also allow members to live outside of the service area.
