The University of Minnesota and the Committee of Interns and Residents, a local of Service Employees International Union (CIR-SEIU), met on December 16, 2025, for the seventh session in this negotiation cycle.  

To date, the parties have reached tentative agreements on the following full articles:

  • Article: Posting of Agreement
  • Article: Labor-Management Committee

The parties will meet every other week for the foreseeable future, with the next bargaining session scheduled for January 6, 2025.

December 2

November 18

The University of Minnesota and the Committee of Interns and Residents, a local of Service Employees International Union (CIR-SEIU), met on November 18, 2025, for the fifth session in this negotiation cycle.

September 17

The University and CIR-SEIU held an opening bargaining session on September 17. The parties exchanged initial non-economic proposals. Two articles: (a) Agreement, and (b) Posting of Agreement reached tentative agreement. The next bargaining session is October 7.

September 15

The University and CIR-SEIU will begin bargaining on September 17. 

After the initial session, both parties have agreed to hold a virtual bargaining session on the first Tuesday of each month in the evening.

The first virtual session will be held on October 7.

Bureau of Mediation Services Certifies Union

On March 24, 2025, the State of Minnesota, Bureau of Mediation Services, received a petition filed by the Committee of Interns and Residents, Long Island City, New York. With majority support confirmed through valid authorization cards, the Bureau of Mediation Services (BMS) certified the union as the exclusive representative on May 9, 2025.

Next Steps

Negotiations will begin once scheduling is arranged between the University and the Union. Once confirmed, negotiation session dates will be posted on this page.
