With ongoing calls for civic action regarding federal enforcement in Minnesota, employees are required to follow their campus, college, or unit’s process for requesting vacation or personal holiday time off. Following the established process allows the University to plan for the continuity of operations while also supporting the right of faculty, staff, and students to engage in lawful civic expression.
For all employees
Employees, including students with University jobs, who plan to be away from their work must use vacation or personal holiday time with the supervisor's advance approval. Sick or Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST) cannot be used for these absences. Unapproved absences, including walking off the job or failing to report to work as scheduled, may result in corrective action in accordance with University policies and collective bargaining agreements.
University leaders and supervisors can offer flexibility where feasible, while also ensuring appropriate arrangements to maintain vital services.
Questions about time away, attendance, or supervisory responsibilities should be directed to your local HR lead.
