The University is committed to helping employees and their dependents access effective care. To support long-term access and make treatment easier to manage, the University is transitioning to a more cost-effective, easier-to-use option.
Any change to treatment can feel uncertain, and support is available to help make this transition as smooth as possible.
Whatās changing July 1, 2026?
If you are using Wegovy or Zepbound single-dose pens or vials for weight management, you will soon transition to the Zepbound KwikPen.
This change does not apply to those using GLP-1 medications for diabetes treatment. Those prescriptions will continue as they are today.
What this means for you
- No gap in coverage: Existing authorizations will automatically transfer to the Zepbound KwikPen.
- Same approval timeline: Your current prior authorization will keep its original expiration date.
- Action may be needed soon: If your authorization expires soon, contact your provider to get approved for Zepbound KwikPen.
- Important: The Zepbound KwikPen does not come with pen needles. Eli Lilly, the manufacturer of the KwikPen, does not manufacture pen needles, so you will need to purchase them separately at the pharmacy. The good news is that the KwikPen is compatible with most standard pen needles on the market. Talk to your pharmacist, and they can recommend a compatible option.
Next steps
- Watch for outreach. Prime Therapeutics will contact anyone impacted with more information.
- Talk to your pharmacist about your new Zepbound KwikPen. They can walk you through how to properly use the KwikPen, including priming the needle before each use and proper injection technique.
- Talk to your provider about your treatment plan. This will help ensure a smooth transition. If a new prior authorization is needed, your provider can submit a request through any of the following:
- Fax: (855) 212-8110
- Online: CoverMyMeds.com
- Phone: Prime has a dedicated call center for the University available 24/7 at (800) 727-6181
