Why am I not allowed to register in MyU?

You must activate your student record to register. The process varies for non-degree undergraduates, Twin Cities non-degree graduates, and degree-seeking students.

It says I don’t have permission to register for this class. What do I do?

You may need a permission number to register for certain classes. Contact the instructor to request a permission number.

Can I use financial aid and the Regents Tuition Benefit Program to pay for classes?

Yes, in some situations. Contact your campus One Stop to verify if the type of financial aid you want to use works with your situation.

Does the Regents Tuition Benefit Program help me get admitted to a degree-seeking program?

No. Admission to colleges/programs across all U of M system campuses is determined by each campus’s admission criteria. The Regents Tuition Benefit Program does not automatically grant admission to any program at the University.

All enrolled students, regardless of employment status, must be ready to succeed academically.

Will I be taxed on my tuition benefit?

You will only be taxed if you are taking graduate-level classes and your total tuition benefit exceeds $5,250 in a calendar year.

If a class is related to your current job, it may be excluded from tax if you complete the Job-Related Graduate Course Exclusion Application (see Tax Implications of Regents Tuition Benefit Program) and your application is approved.

Will I receive any tax forms for my tuition benefit?

Reporting for your tuition benefit depends on the following factors:

  • What tuition and fees you paid out of pocket
  • Whether any of the benefit was taxed

See the Tax Implications of Regents Benefit Tuition Program for detailed information on reporting.
