Updated Federal EEO Poster

The EEOC has consolidated two existing EEO workplace posters into one. The “EEO is the Law” and “Supplement” postings have been consolidated into a new, single posting called “Know Your Rights.” As such, the outdated postings should be removed and replaced with the new consolidated posting (the new poster is only available in English and Spanish language versions). Please note that the other EEOC-provided poster on “Pay Transparency” has not been consolidated into this new version and should still remain up. The Employee & Labor Relations web page has also been updated with these changes.

Consistent with prior guidance, these required labor/employment postings should be physically displayed in a manner that all employees can view them at their regular workplace. If you have a few employees who don't regularly come to the "central location" of the campus, college, or administrative unit where these are posted, these posters should be posted where those employees regularly work.

Background Check Exceptions

In rare cases, employees may start their appointment prior to the completion of a background check. Exceptions will only be considered if the background check and verification have not been completed five days after submission and if the position provides a critical service to the University or if the background check process has been delayed due to extenuating circumstances (e.g., a natural disaster). New employees shall not start in their role unless an exception has been granted by central HR.

Background check exceptions must be requested through OHR’s Talent Acquisition (TA) department. To streamline the request process, TA has created this form, which is found on this OHR webpage and also in the policy library. If you have any questions regarding the exception request process, please email ohr@umn.edu.

New Process for Entering Background Check Dates

Beginning December 1, units no longer need to manually enter the dates of successful background checks from HireRight, the University’s vendor for conducting background checks. Previously, these dates were entered in PeopleSoft on the Modify a Person > Regional tab. Beginning in December, central OHR will automatically add the dates to PeopleSoft every month.

This new process will improve the University’s compliance and recordkeeping while also improving efficiency, since collegiate and administrative units will no longer have to enter the data manually. (However, units will continue to track the required Safety of Minors checkbox in PeopleSoft to note if an employee falls under the policy.) Units will also have more complete data on background checks and can see if another one needs to be ordered for a transfer or rehire employee.

The first HireRight background check dates will be loaded into PeopleSoft in mid-December and then between the 15th and 20th of each month thereafter. For questions about the new process, email or call the OHR Contact Center at ohr@umn.edu, 612-624-8647, or 800-756-2363.

The MN Department of Labor has released updated minimum wage posters. The 2023 posters are available in multiple languages (Chinese, English, Hmong, Somali, and Spanish) and have been added to the ELR webpage. Please be sure that the physical minimum wage posters at your campus, college or administrative units are updated by January 1, 2023. Consistent with prior guidance, these should be physically displayed in a manner that all employees can view them at their regular workplace. If you have a few employees who don't regularly come to the "central location" of the campus, college or administrative unit where these are posted, these posters should be posted where those employees regularly work.

Postdoctoral salary floor adjusting for fiscal year 2024

For budget-planning purposes, we want to let you know that the salary floor for postdoctoral associates will be increasing to $54,835 for fiscal year 2024. All postdocs who are paid below this salary floor will need to have their pay increased to $54,835 with a June 19, 2023, effective date.

This salary floor adjustment is based on updated market data for postdoctoral associates, including data on minimum stipends published in April 2022 by the National Research Service Awards. It is our hope that proactively adjusting these salary floors each fiscal year will keep postdoc salaries competitive and help maintain the University of Minnesota as a top destination for postdoctoral associates.

For more information, please contact Mary Rohman KuhlSenior Director of Total Rewards, or Scott Lanyon Vice Provost and Dean of Graduate Education.
